Train a Team in SILP School

4 Features of SILP Trained Partnerships

SILP trained partnerships have implemented the learning from SILP School in ways in which we never envisaged when the training began in 2013.

The scope for creating expansive learning opportunities from internal reviews has increased, with innovations such as the hybrid review [some work done by the independent, some by professionals from within the partnership] also gaining momentum.

If your partnership prioritises engagement with practitioners and families, proportionality of approach and values learning from strong practice, you may wish to use the SILP approach for your reviews. Only those who have passed our university accredited training course have permission to use this trademarked methodology, used in over 200 cases since 2009.

These SILP trained teams are seeing the benefits in two ways. Firstly, they are upskilling & driving up the quality of their internal reviews. As a collateral benefit they are driving down the cost of ALL their reviews.

What were the drivers for change in these partnerships?

How do they make it work in practice?
Applying the SILP principles and utilising the library of templates and resources, these partnerships offer high quality learning opportunities for their agencies. Many reviews are internal, and at times there is a preference to add an element of independence. Where a local area has an in house SILP trained reviewer, we can offer a SILP trained independent reviewer to work alongside them where the review requires. Often the arrangement involves the independent reviewer commenting on drafts & sometimes chairing the learning event. The details are agreed at the scoping meeting. Cost savings result under both of these models.

Collateral Benefits

There are less obvious outcomes, too. SILP trained professionals bring fresh thinking to the model of support for participants engaging in their reviews. The result? Increased confidence and enthusiasm for partner agencies, who are more open to engage in open learning.
